Antoine Griezmann rumors have been a daily occurrence for a couple years now, with just about every big team in Europe linked with the Atletico Madrid star at one point or another. We've learned to tune them out and let them fade into background noise. But every once in a while, there's a blip in the transmission.

And so, less than a week after Griezmann proclaimed that he "wants to stay", here comes his "advisor" Eric Olhats to rattle some cages. Those contract renewal negotiations may not be going as well as Atletico would have us believe...

"Contrary to certain claims announcing that Antoine at Atletico next season will be the case without fail, nothing has been decided or endorsed. We are currently listening to different clubs who also offer real interest and attraction."

-Eric Olhats; source: L'Equipe via Get French Football News

The Olhats-Griezmann relationship is not your standard agent-player relationship, and that could give Olhats' words extra meaning and significance. Is he just putting pressure on Atletico to get this done before the Euros, as Griezmann has wanted to all along? Probably. But there could be a crack in the proverbial wall, and with enough pressure (or, "interest and attraction", in this case), that crack could possibly be blasted open.

Any extra sledgehammers lying around the Chelsea offices?

Antoine Griezmann must be fairly tired of having to answer questions about his future, but here he is again, from last night, at a press conference.

"I'm fine here, I'm at ease. I want to continue here and I think the club's intention is not to sell, so I'm not going."

-Antoine Griezmann; source: FourFourTwo

So that's pretty definitive, right? Just like the multiple times before when Griezmann had talked about wanting to stay at Atlético Madrid, or when he signed his extension with an increased buyout that ties him to the club until 2020. None of that will actually put out the ever-smoldering Chelsea rumors, especially since they can be easily spun by the rumor mill as Eden Hazard contingency plans or a Diego Costa swap or whatever other creative stories might come about still.

First step of course for any actual transfer would be to contact the club, which apparently has not happened at all.

"No one has spoken to us about a possible transfer."

-Enrique Cerezo; Atléti president; source: FourFourTwo

Considering that Chelsea seem intent on saving as many major decisions as realistically possible for the summer, or at least until the identity of the new manager is revealed, I don't think we (or Atléti) have to worry about any bids anytime soon.

Silly Season always gets silliest towards the end. Less than 36 hours to go!

I don't particularly care for or about any of these three stories, but they're out there and being talked about, so we should at least mention them quickly.

DIEGO COSTA

This one's the big one from Spain, as Diario AS bring tidings of Chelsea rejecting a €45m bid from Atlético Madrid for Diego Costa. Apparently Simeone is so desperate for a reunion with his talismanic striker that not only has he been practically begging the chairman to do something, he's willing to break the bank for Costa. Here's a thought, maybe come to Chelsea and then you can have him back.

There also a version of this rumor that involves a part-exchange, with Jackson Martinez coming this way as part-compensation, but while we might be liable to make silly, low-impact signings like Falcao or Pato, we're at least not making major blunders, like exchanging Costa for Martinez.

Next!

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

Another rumor that's not going away is our supposed interest in Griezmann. While the 24-year-old seems committed to and happy at Atlético, apparently he'd be the top of our wishlist if Hazard were to leave (to Real Madrid — yawn; or to PSG, a team that he's openly rejected multiple times). Two rumors in one! How efficient! Good job, Daily Mail.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ

This one's probably the least likely of the already quite unlikely grouping of rumors, but at least it's entertaining in how bonkers it is. Jorge Sampaoli, man without a job, remains one of the leading candidates to become Chelsea manager in the summer. Now I'd like to imagine that he himself floated this rumor as some sort of public enticement to the Chelsea hierarchy, but apparently if were were to sign the Copa America-winning Bielsa-phile, he would waste no time in making a serious play for Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, who of course was also the leading star for Chile and thus presumably enjoys playing for Sampaoli. Or something. This one's in the Express, an exclusive!, so you know you can bet your house and your life savings on it without hesitation.

And now you know.

Chelsea and Atlético Madrid have done plenty of business in recent seasons, in both directions, and there's a good chance that business relationship is not close to ending anytime soon. Currently, Chelsea have at least two Atlético men on our shortlist, while they probably have at least one of ours.

The president of Atlético, Enrique Cerezo, speaking with Spanish broadcaster RTVE earlier today, addressed all three rumors.

First up: Diego Simeone, who's one of the front-runners for the Chelsea non-interim manager job once this ridiculous season comes to an end in the summer. Simeone's style probably suits the current squad more than any other potentially available manager, but so far, all parties continue to deny any chance of this happening.

"El Cholo will be here with us for as long as he wants. I think we have a coach who will last a very long time and who will be an important part of the history which this team is making."

Next up: Antoine Griezmann, who's one of the hottest names linked with improving Chelsea's struggling attack. Much like his coach, Griezmann, who has 5 goals in his last 5 games, has shown no real indication of wanting to leave Atlético, unfortunately.

"Griezmann is really enjoying his football here - he's enjoying the fans who love him and admire him, and he's enjoying living in Madrid - all of which comes with being an Atlético de Madrid player"

Lastly but certainly not least-ly: Diego Costa, who's supposedly keeping his options open as far as a premature return to the Spanish capital is concerned, even as most people in the know maintain that he will at least see out his remaining 3.5 years at Chelsea.

"Right now, Diego is a Chelsea player and he has to focus on Chelsea. But you never know what will happen in football, and sometimes players do return to their former clubs."

The classic "you never know what will happen" — just enough to keep the rumors alive without saying anything of any real consequence. You never know, maybe Diego's back on the goalscoring trail after Saturday's brace and he will retire a proper Chelsea legend.

I'm not sure the Atlético president's words reveal anything new or unexpected in any of these three situations. Prepare for plenty more rumors as we go through January and then into the summer transfer window.

We've had an umpteen number of names linked with us this season already, from John Stones to Jamie Vardy. While the extent of the actual truth behind the rumours may vary, one name that has popped up more than just a few times is that of French attacker, Antoine Griezmann.

Currently in his second season at Atletico Madrid and contracted there until 2020, the forward has been making waves in Spanish football for a few years now and is arguably yet to hit his peak. This season, he's already scored 11 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions. Very recently he was rumoured to have been made our 'number one target'.

Speaking on the television show, Canal Football Club, the 24-year-old had a few words to dampen our spirits regarding the possibility of a transfer away from Madrid in January.

"I do not feel the need to play in Ligue 1, nor in the Premier League or in the Serie A."

"I am in Spain - I'm happy. Life here, football, I like it all."

It's probably safe to say we won't have the player himself pushing for a move any time soon.

Let's just sign Jamie Vardy before Real Madrid gets him, aye?

Well, somebody's lying. Or making up things. Or both? Ah, the wonders of football media.

The (proverbial) ink hadn't yet dried on post-match reports carrying Jose Mourinho's words about not asking for new players in the January transfer window when outlets like the Mirror were back at it already.

Chelsea have made Antoine Griezmann their number one target for the January transfer window. The 24-year-old France international frontman is valued at £25-million-plus by his Spanish club, Atletico Madrid.

£25m? That seems a bit low.

Mourinho is also monitoring the situation with Saido Berahino of West Bromwich Albion. The 22-year-old was the subject of an unseemly tussle between Spurs and Albion in the summer when an agreement could not be reached over how a £22 million fee would be paid. Spurs are likely to go back for him next month but will find Chelsea keen competitors for Berahino.

£22m? That seems a bit high.

And I doubt Mourinho's personally monitoring anything other than how to mould this ragtag bunch of former winners back into something that resembles a quality footballing side.

Neither the Griezmann nor the Berahino links are new of course. But neither is the claim that we will not be active in the January transfer window. Can't have both of those true at the same time, which probably will mean that, just like in the summer, we'll panic buy some mediocre scrubs in the final few days. Then again, maybe one of those guy will be capable of getting onto the end of a cross or a cutback.

A vintage weekend for Silly Season as the lack of proper football action around Europe has resulted in a trifecta of (dubious) stories (from equally dubious and silly sources) looking to one-up each other in outrageousness.

First up, Atlético Madrid's Antoine Griezmann. The 24-year-old Frenchman is certainly in demand, and while Atlético seem confident of being able to keep him past this season, most are expecting a change of scenery for the wing-forward. He will not come cheap of course, but according to the Express, we're trying to negotiate a deal for something below the player's buyout price. Our opening bid is supposedly £40m. That's probably not going to get it done.

Fortunately, Chelsea should be able to loosen the purse strings if needed. And if the new hotness that is Griezmann won't do it, maybe we'd do it for a tiring old soldier like Cristiano Ronaldo? As I understand, he's not too bad at this whole goal-scoring business with which we seem to have so much trouble lately. Here's The Sun claiming that Real Madrid would be willing to let their star man go back to England for the same exact price (not accounting for inflation) for which he arrived, £80m. Manchester United are supposedly interested as well, and we can safely assume they'll be splashing plenty of cash this summer and maybe even January as well.

Though maybe if United blow their budget on Cristiano, we swoop for the next best thing (or the best thing, depending on where you stand in this debate), and tempt Lionel Messi away from Barcelona. The Express claim that cool £18m/season salary (after taxes!) should do it. That's £600,000 per week (before taxes), or roughly three times as much as our highest wage-earner, Eden Hazard, makes currently. Add-in the €250m release clause, and we're practically scraping the bottom of the bargain bin for Messi.

In summary, thanks, Silly Season. Keep on being silly!

With all the drama elsewhere in the CFC, there's hardly been time to keep up to date with the "minor" rumors of the Eden Hazard, Antoine Griezmann, and Paul Pogba kind. So let's see what's the word on those fronts.

HAZARD:

Given his personal and the team's struggles, plus supposed friction (again) with the manager, perhaps it was unsurprising that just last week, half of Europe were lining up for the Premier League's Player of the Year (or his doppelganger, whichever the current Hazard may actually be). It took them a few days, but apparently they've now realized that Hazard has actually not been very good since the summer and thus have soured a bit on his prospects.

Real Madrid's plethora of second-line strikers mean Hazard, while highly rated, is not a priority. And Barcelona feel the player is too similar to Arda Turan who they signed last summer. Their summer 2016 priority will be Paul Pogba or Marco Verratti.

If Madrid and Barca's current lack of interest remains unchanged, Hazard will stay.

-source: Mail

Good news for us! (Assuming he finds the real Hazard in himself again. Hint: it's probably not in your pants, Eden.)

GRIEZMANN:

The same Daily Mail report as above also continues the story of our supposedly unrelenting pursuit of the Atletico Madrid wing-forward and his massive €65m release clause. Apparenly, we might throw in Diego Costa to sweeten the deal, which seems a bit silly. Griezmann's a lovely player, no doubt, but he's not someone I'd want leading the line.

Antoine Griezmann, the 24-year-old Atletico Madrid forward, will follow Diego Costa's footsteps and move from Madrid to London at the end of the season if Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich gets his way.

The French forward could arrive to partner Costa in Chelsea's attack, although Costa would not be against the idea of returning to Atletico Madrid as part of the deal.

-source: Mail

Of course Chelsea are hardly alone in our interest in Griezmann. Manchester United and Arsenal have been strongly linked as of late, and I'm sure they're not the only ones keeping an eye on things either.

POGBA:

Meanwhile, over in Italy, Juventus continue to match Chelsea in terms of shambolic performances, collecting just 12 points from their first 10 matches as they, too, attempt to salvage their season from a serious title defense to barely hoping to make the European spots. Pogba himself has struggled mightily at times, just like our best players have, and that has not helped cast any sort of certainty over his near-term or long-term future.

"We'll see what Barça's project is, and what Paul's project is. All doors are open to all clubs. For now, the young man decided last summer to stay for a minimum of one year at Juventus. We should always respect the will of a player when he chooses with his heart."

"We can't give figures, but last year Juventus said no to offers of €85m. One hundred million euros? Juve have always said that's the sum they want. It's a way of saying he's one of the best players on the planet."

"When he left Manchester [United] for Juve he chose with his heart, and it will be the same with his next club."

-Mino Raiola; source: Guardian

In addition to the usual English and Spanish suspects, Raiola also name-dropped PSG and Bayern Munich as he attempts to keep his client's value up in the stratosphere ahead of another summer (and winter?) filled with transfer rumors.
