Or at least his agent does. And he also (probably) prefers Max Allegri even more.

There are certain traditions that must be observed each holiday. And by holiday I mean transfer window. Which is the biggest holiday in football, where wonderful presents are delivered to teams across the world and people try to one-up each other with delusions of grandeur and massive, FIFA/FM-esque transfer scenarios. It's generally a time of hope and peace and prosperity before the harsh realities of the actual season set in.

And it's never too early to start thinking about the holidays. I mean traditions.

One such tradition, observed quite regularly since about 2012 — though not nearly as regularly as HULK-a-mania or Mikel's latest upcoming adventures in Turkey or China or Italy or wherever — is Edinson Cavani. The wonderfully haired center forward first made our hearts throb in the colors of Napoli, where he upgraded himself from a 1-in-2 striker to a 2-in-3 sniper. In his final year there, he average almost 1-in-1 and earned himself the huge money transfer to Paris, to play second fiddle to The Zlatan.

Now that Zlatan may be ready to move on, I'm not sure why Cavani's at all agitating for a move as well. But perhaps he's just making sure that PSG give him a contract extension (he will have two years left after this season). So here's Cavani's agent, stirring the pot gently.

In three months everything can change. Edinson could stay at PSG, who have an ambitious project, but also he could change. Who do I prefer between Jose Mourinho, Conte and Massimo Allegri? There are three big coaches, but for Edy I'd prefer the attacking game of Conte and Allegri.

-Walter Guglielmone, agent, brother*; source: Tuttosport via Metro

That's how the Metro present the agent's quotes. But the full quotes make it much more likely that Juventus (and Allegri) would be the actual preferred destination, not Chelsea (and Conte).

"Anything is possible in football... [Juventus] is a prestigious club with a great history and a great present, last year reached the final of the Champions . Moreover, Edinson, in his time at Naples, has always scored against them. In three months, everything can change... What is true today, may not be worth anything tomorrow. "

"Edinson may remain at PSG, which has an ambitious project, but it could change. It will depend on many aspects. Now, as my brother says, it's time to think only of winning the Champions [League]. In June, if anything, there will be time to think of the market."

"The Premier League is where there is more competition between the teams, but Serie A and La Liga are equally difficult and high-level. For Edi, a return to Italy would absolutely not be a step back in his career. [With Dybala], he would form one of the strongest duos in Europe. But now my brother plays in the PSG ..."

"Who do I prefer as a technician between Conte, Mourinho and Allegri? You should inquire directly to my brother. They are three big, but personally for Edi, I prefer the offensive game of Allegri and Conte."

-Walter Guglielmone, source: Tuttosport via Goal (and Google Translate)

So, at best, should Cavani decide to leave, it might be a two-horse race? Though our horse would be a bit gimpy, given the lack of Champions League football to spur it on.

* If, like me, you're confused how Cavani and Guglielmone are brothers, their maternal last name is the same, Gómez.

The rumor mill started off the new week with a couple heavy hitters. Unfortunately, they were both re-runs of seasons past, or in Edinson Cavani's case, several seasons past.

Every time I see Cavani's name linked with Chelsea, I get reminded of the summer of 2013. Simpler times. The Interim One was gone, The Special One was on his way home, his aura untainted by results worse than anything seen in the last few decades at the Stamford Bridge. Gloriously coiffed Edinson was leaving Napoli and Europe's biggest and best and brightest were lining up with their checkbooks. We were lead to believe Chelsea were in that line, too, but as it turned out, we were not.

Cavani ended up at Paris Saint-Germain, where he's continued his goalscoring exploits — last season he breached the 30-goal summit for the fourth time in five seasons — despite having to toil in the rather sizable shadow (and that's just the one cast by his ego) Zlatan Ibrahimović. With The Zlatan's powers slowly waning, it's rather unlikely that PSG would want to cash-in on Cavani, but just in case they do, we can point back to Le10 Sport as finally having gotten one rumor right. (Of course, if the other far-fetched rumors of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho going to PSG are true, then it might make a bit more sense. But, this isn't FIFA.)

In other, more recent rumor re-runs, Oscar has once again been linked with Juventus, with the one caveat that the Serie A defending champions might not be able to afford Chelsea's asking price, especially after they spend €20m+ on Juan Cuadrado. I'm no expert in these matters, but if Oscar's truly to leave us (unlikely, even as bad as our season's going at the moment), I say we package him and Cuadrado up in a neat bow and deliver them in exchange for a certain ... yeah, you know who ... Paul Pogba (and if that swap story sounds familiar, then that's because it's been floating around since at least the summer).

Huh?!

So Edinson Cavani completed his anxiously awaited move to PSG yesterday, bringing an end to constant speculation, or, as many Chelsea fans saw it, constant pining for a transfer.

Aurelio De Laurentiis, who'll now surely be laughing his way to the bank, talked about the deal shortly before setting off to do exactly that. According to the Napoli President, all the clubs mentioned over the course of the past month got involved, and to varying degrees:

"Manchester City wanted to take Cavani but they never arrived at a certain fee.

"He [Cavani] had already asked to go away last summer but then we found the agreement to extend his contract until 2017.

"In these cases you put in the buy-out clause hoping that no-one will pay it.

"Real Madrid refused immediately to pay this fee, the same for City, while Chelsea never came forward."

Remember a couple of weeks back when De Laurentiis emphatically denied any Chelsea bids for his star hit man? Media outlets from Italy were in full, contradictory flow around that time, including Sky Italia's Tancredi megaphone, who earned himself thousands of new followers piggybacking on the speculation persisting throughout in the Cavani soap opera.

Anyway, the Napoli President has stayed on his word, insisting there was no concrete expression of interest from Chelsea. While City's involvement was understandable, owing to FSW's interest in bringing Dzeko to Napoli, Real's mooted inquiry, it turns out, was actually real.

What is a little surprising however, and largely due to the humongous body of [supposed] reported evidence, is that Chelsea were never really in for the Uruguayan, gargantuan transfer fees or not*. If De Laurentiis is indeed telling the truth, it's probably simply another reminder of just how much liberty the press take, extrapolating on the basis of little evidence, coherent or not. If he isn't, well, did you know Italian club presidents are doggone lunatics?

*Not to mention how much faith the club has in its current strike battery. So there.

So now that the Edinson Cavani transfer saga has ended, I'm sure we'll start to hear the Wayne Rooney rumors pick up steam

It's been all but confirmed for the past week or so that Edinson Cavani would be joining PSG instead of Real Madrid, Chelsea, or Manchester City. PSG have taken care of that "all but" portion today, confirming the signing of Cavani on a shiny new contract in a press conference streamed on their official site.

With both Falcao and Cavani taking their talents to Ligue 1, the two most talked about center forwards on the market are now effectively out of reach. Robert Lewandowski appears to be all but signed with Bayern Munich, taking a third hot commodity off the table for the Blues.

There are rumors that the enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be looking at yet another transfer, but at the moment it's a bit unclear just how seriously we should be taking those reports. If Zlatan isn't a real option, there isn't really another world-class striker that the Blues can target this summer. Romelu Lukaku, it looks as if you'll get your chance to shine...

This Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain thing has been pretty strange, and not just because it's difficult for me to imagine Cavani playing in that particular shade of blue (which eeeew). The club's director of football has tendered his resignation in the middle of trying to sign him and former and future teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi has apparently tried to warn him off coming to the Parc des Princes. There's been a surreal, dream-like quality to this whole thing.

That's not going to stop the move actually happening though:

I'm still skeptical that this makes any sense for PSG thanks to the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but there you have it. The Cavani saga will be over soon -- not with a bang but with the whimper of a successful medical in France and the subsequent presser. I know many Chelsea fans will have mixed feelings over missing out on such an elite player, but it's not difficult to see why the club might have baulked at the cost, both in finances and restricted opportunities for the likes of Romelu Lukaku.

Anyway, hang tight, for this will all be over soon. Probably.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ... n.

Filtering out of France are the following words, spoken into the microphones of beIN Sport:

[Cavani?] Il sera bientôt avec nous.

Cavani? He will soon be with us. I presume Blanc dropped the mic after that one. Or was that just somebody dropping an anvil on my heart?

After all the months of speculation, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Chelsea have all been usurped by the sudden whirlwhind of Paris Saint-Germain. Like some mythical beast out of the pre-FFP era, the French took care of business seemingly in just a few a days.

So no Cavani for us. And no Falcao for us. No Mario Gomez for us. Presumably no Lewandowski for us either.

Instead it's Torres for us and Torres is Torres. And it's Ba for us and Ba developed a major case of the finishing yips at the tail end of last season. And it's Lukaku for us. Can he handle the pressure? I sure hope so.

Interesting. Is it true? Here are a list of reasons that Chelsea might be out on Edinson Cavani:

He has been sold to another team.

His price has changed.

Cavani has changed.

Chelsea's needs have changed.

A new, more attractive target has become available.

Since he obviously has not yet been sold -- the rumours of Paris Saint-Germain rumours persist, with some reports claiming that the Parisians have activated his buyout clause -- we can rule out option one. Similarly, the buyout means that his cost cannot change until the clause expires in August. Two down. He didn't pick up an injury at the Confederations Cup, so he's still the same Cavani. Three down.

That leaves options four and five, which are plausible but not likely. It's possible that the acquisition of Andre Schurrle has given Jose Mourinho enough depth at centre forward (Schurrle could feasibly be an option as a fourth-choice there) that the club is no longer interested in spending big money at centre forward. It's also possibly that a name like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski or Luis Suarez -- if we're feeling cheeky -- has become available.

But those aren't very likely, and so there's no reason for Chelsea to be out at this point. Either they were never really in it and remain not in it, or they were and still are. There's not a lot of room for in-betweens.

We've been linked to the uber-talented Uruguayan for a while now, but there's a league rival that's supposedly been interested longer than, and possible long before, we were.

Manchester City were reported to be in reckoning to sign Cavani as far back as roughly a season and a half ago, and while at the time it was dismissed since City were being linked frenziedly to pretty much every striker in form then (they ended up signing Dzeko), it turns out there might've been a hint of truth to it after all.

Mancini recently spoke to Corriere Dello Sport, revealing his plans for the upcoming summer before he was rudely given the boot.

"When I was at City, I made Cavani as our absolute top target for this summer transfer window."

Long story short, we all know what happened, and fortunately for us, the new guy wasn't nearly as keen as the outgoing Italian. That, alongwith the early signing of Jesus Navas and the incommensurately huge deal Shakhtar forced City into for Fernandinho probably caused them to run through the bulk of their summer budget pretty fast. (thanks Shakhtar!)

Looking at the hue and cry Mancini made about City's sluggish entry into the market last season, and noting how they, in rectification, have moved swiftly for targets this time around, it's probably not unreasonable to assume City would've bolted for Cavani's signature as soon as the season ended. If you consider(ed) that a genuine possibility, in hindsight, it's probably a good thing Mancini wasn't in the hotseat when the summer started.

Cavani though, is still on the market, we're still within a decent shout of getting him, and by the looks of it, might have a rather unusual turn of events to thank for our current situation. Phew!
