Chelsea FC Women have completed the signing of defender Nathalie Björn, who’s expected to bolster Emma Hayes’ defensive options amid Millie Bright’s continued absence. Chelsea have been a bit short at the back for a while now and Björn had been identified as the player who can help shore things up.
The 26-year-old has signed a 3.5-year deal with the club, good through 2027, for a fee reportedly “well over £100k”. (A symbolic signing in a way, too, in terms of talent acquisition despite Emma Hayes leaving.)

Welcome to Chelsea, Nathalie Bjorn! pic.twitter.com/3QhGuT5GC0
Björn can play in the center or on the right side of the defense, having done the former quite effectively for Everton over the last couple years, and having done the latter frequently for the Swedish national team of late. It sounds like we will want to utilize her in the more central capacity however. She can also deputize at defensive midfield.
“Nathalie is a very experienced, versatile player that we have been tracking for a long time. She is a leader, has good pace, is good on the ball, and knows our league very well.
“We are really pleased to get the deal over the line and look forward to seeing her make a good impact in the squad now and over the upcoming years.”

Björn is Chelsea’s first signing this winter as we look to push on for yet another WSL title and deep Champions League run.
Welcome, Nathalie, let’s win some things!
