Guro Reiten has signed a new contract with Chelsea, as announced by the club, which now includes “an option to extend” until 2026.

It’s a slightly strange way to word the announcement of a new contract, but that seems to be because the initial length of the deal is unchanged — good through 2025 on a three-year deal signed in 2022 — but now we’ve added an option to that to keep her for at least one more season beyond that. And that’s certainly great news as we attempt to navigate a post-Emma Hayes world starting next season.

It’s not known if any of the terms of the contract changed as well, though after a personal-best season in 2022-23, which included a nomination for the 2023 Ballon d’Or, she would certainly deserve a payrise as well.

“I’ve been here four years now and I’ve loved every second of it. It feels like my second family and I have some really good friends here. I enjoy my time on and off the pitch and there is no place I’d rather be.”

The 29-year-old Reiten is currently nursing an ankle injury that has kept her out for over a month now. Hopefully she’ll be back sooner rather than later.

Congrats and thanks, Guro!
