Sam Kerr withdraws from Australia squad with foot injury

Like Donna and The Doctor, injuries and international breaks are a universal constant. Though this one seems more precautionary than anything, with Sam Kerr withdrawing from the Australia squad ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Canada.

Kerr had started five Chelsea games in the past fourteen days, scored six goals, and played nearly seven hours of competitive football across our WSL and Champions League campaigns. It was a welcome return to dominant form after a relatively slow start to the campaign, but also a great increase in workload after dealing with a few other injury and fitness issues since the summer.

So it would make plenty of sense for Kerr to withdraw from international duty, even if it leaves Matildas head coach Tony Gustavsson in a bit of a pickle.

It should be noted that Chelsea’s official confirmation of Kerr’s status does not make any claim about the severity of her injury (will “undergo further assessment”), so I’m just basing this assessment on circumstantial evidence. I am not a doctor, nor The Doctor.
