Top of the table Chelsea FC Women made history with a straightforward win over Aston Villa tonight. The dominant 4-0 beatdown of the second worst team in the division was Chelsea 32nd straight league match without defeat, a new record. Chelsea have not lost a WSL match since January 2019, a run of almost exactly two years (25 wins, 7 draws).
Absolutely remarkable! Congratulations to all involved, from the players to the coaches to the administrators, but especially to Emma Hayes, who’s once again proving that she’s the best head coach in all the lands.
It didn’t take long for the Blues to open to scoring tonight, with Sam Kerr blasting Chelsea into the lead in the 3rd minute with a powerful volley and perfect technique. About a half-hour later, Kerr turned provider to set up Bethany England for our second, with Chelsea adding two more midway through the second half, through Pernille Harder and captain Magda Eriksson, with Guro Reiten collecting the assists.
Chelsea’s collection of talent is ridiculous, and we’re performing up to those heightened expectations in 2021.
Emma Hayes and her team will try to add to this record on Sunday, when Spurs come to town.
