Olympic qualifying has made a bit of a mess of the WSL season. The first such break of 2020 kept Kerr away from Chelsea for nearly a month, and now there’s another break already. The good news is that Kerr’s Australia are almost certain to qualify after the first match of their two-legged final against Vietnam ended 5-0.
Kerr got The Matildas off and running in the tenth minute with a well-timed run and header, crossing the keeper to give her no chance at the save.

Australia were awarded a penalty late in the match and Kerr was given the task of grabbing her brace from the spot in the 80th minute. She took the penalty in exactly the way you would expect someone with Sam Kerr’s intensity to take it.

The Matildas can make their inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympics certain by finishing to job in next Wednesday’s second leg, which will be played in Cẩm Phả, Vietnam.
Chelsea’s next match is a March 15th FA Cup quarterfinal meeting with Everton (who we then play again, this time in the league, a week after).
