More good news from Chelsea today!
Hannah Blundell, one of our own, has signed a new contract! The 25-year-old right back and Chelsea Academy product has extended for another two years.
After a long battle with an injury, Chelsea’s first match of the season — a 1-0 win over Tottenham — was supposed to be a bit of a rebirth for Blundell, except she had to be subbed off with another injury. Since then, the team got into a groove and haven’t looked back, which meant that Hannah was going to have to not only recover, but catch up as well.
She has done so brilliantly.
Blundell has started Chelsea’s last three matches, a run in which the Blues have scored eleven and conceded none. Her solidification of the right back spot has also allowed Emma Hayes to deploy the savvy Maren Mjelde (who had been filling in for Blundell) in midfield.
However, this doesn’t mean that Blundell doesn’t have attacking ability herself. In fact, were it not for Bethany England doing the same about once every three-to-four matches, Blundell would have one of Chelsea’s goals of the season.
“Right feint to left shot” is a nasty thing to do to a panicked defender in the box:
Blundell began her youth career with Chelsea in 2013 and is surely aiming to stretch it into a decade at the best club in London. She also knows what that means in terms of expectations, and the work it takes to live up to them.
“Chelsea’s obviously a big name and with that comes pressures of success. Obviously we want to win trophies every season, and it’s the same this season. We don’t want to win one or two, we want to make sure we get the treble.”

Chelsea through and through!
Good luck and congratulations on the extension!
