On the heels of a massively successful Women’s World Cup earlier this year in France, interest in the women’s game is at an all-time high, and the English FA have made the amazing, superb, bold decision to stream every single Women’s Super League match this season for free — including Chelsea’s.
Built on a custom platform, The FA Player will also contained archived and on-demand content, as well as the broadcast of one Women’s Championship (i.e. second division) game per round. Better yet, it will be not be region-locked, meaning that international viewing will be allowed! (Only games that will be shown on BT Sport will be blacked out for UK viewers.)
The only requirement for access will be to register for the platform, which is set to go live on September 2. Mobile apps for iOS and Android will also be available at that time.
One of the biggest barriers to womens’ football will have thus been removed. Up until now, simply watching the WSL was a difficult task. Now that games will be available to all, and that can only be a good thing. It should help us cover the Chelsea Women better than ever as well!
Looking forward to this!
