Chelsea have recalled one young goalkeeper and sent another one on loan over the course of the past 24 hours, with 17-year-old Ted Curd recalled and 20-year-old Eddie Beach heading out. It’s not necessarily a one-for-one move, with Beach on the fringes of the first-team already as the third or fourth goalkeeper, though Curd is expected to stay with the Chelsea for the rest of the season.

Curd had been with former meme-team Hashtag United, who currently compete in the Isthmian Premier League. They’re seventh at the moment, thanks in part to the youngster’s 16 starts in the first half of the season.

For Beachy, this will be the second successive January that he heads out on loan. This time last year, he joined Chelmsford of the National League South; now he’s heading to Gateshead, one division higher in the National League.

The Tynesiders are just a point outside the promotion playoff spots, with a couple games in hand, so hopefully Beach can help them close that gap (he also helped Chelmsford do the same last year, though they lost in the quarterfinals). Incidentally, former Chelsea prospect, scout, and “Football Icon” Carl Magnay is currently a first-team coach at Gateshead.

Good luck, boys!
