Highly rated midfielder Alex Matos has become a frequent sight around the Chelsea first-team, making the matchday squad in our last ten matches in all competitions. But his involvement has not extended beyond just sitting on the bench, and he’s failed to add to his two token substitute appearances of just a handful of minutes from earlier this season. So it only makes sense that he would head out on loan this month.
And sure enough, that loan assignment has been made official today, with the 19-year-old joining Huddersfield Town for the rest of the season.
✍️ We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Alex Matos for the remainder of the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season!— Huddersfield Town (@htafc) January 4, 2024

Welcome to the Terriers, Alex! #htafc
Huddersfield find themselves in the middle of a relegation battle, having won just 5 games so far (of 26 played), and currently sitting three points and one spot about the relegation zone. That’s not exactly ideal circumstances for a young loanee to make an impression, but perhaps he can help turn their fortunes around (or at least ensure survival).
“With so many important games to come, improving our options in midfield early in the window was crucial as we’ve seen the impact that injuries can have on the way we want to play as a team.
“Alex has a fantastic pedigree, exciting career to date and huge hunger and desire to succeed right at the very highest level of the game - as his Manager, it’s that mentality and application that I find most exciting about him.
“A little bit different to all of our current options, I’m keen to get working with him straight away to see how his game can compliment and enhance not only his teammates in midfield, but the side as a whole.”

Good luck, Alex!
