As announced by the club yesterday, Dujuan “Whisper” Richards has now completed his move to Chelsea. The 18-year-old youngster had signed back in the summer already (with the move agreed even before then), but had to wait for his 18th birthday (plus two months for reasons unspecified) to join up with the club.

Richards did also tag along for our summer tour in the USA as a training-only participant however, so he’s not exactly a brand new presence, but presumably will go into the Development Squad. He’s an exciting prospect, but surely a player for the future as opposed to for the now, even in this very young Chelsea team — and even if he already has ten senior caps for Jamaica.

“I’m so pleased to be here. My dream was always to sign a professional contract and to have the chance to do that here at Chelsea, it’s difficult to put into words the emotions. I just can’t wait to get started.”

Welcome, Whisper. Looking forward to some noise in the future!
