Tottenham, Chelsea ‘not in formal talks yet’ over Conor Gallagher — reports

The Conor Gallagher exit rumors aren’t going away, and if anything, they are getting louder as we approach the eve of the January transfer window.

Shouting loudest this weekend has been Gianluca Di Marzio, with claims that Tottenham Hotspur are “trying to reach agreement” with Chelsea for a €40m deal. Spurs’ supposed interest isn’t anything new, though we failed to agree a £50m deal in the summer and Spurs are apparently not prioritizing the midfield this time around.

So it’s perhaps reassuring that CBS’s Ben Jacobs (along with a few others presumably closer to the situation than most) have already debunked the latest Di Marzio story ... at least for now ... claiming that the two teams are “not in formal talks yet”. The “yet” part is obviously concerning.

So hopefully this doesn’t ever evolve beyond the current situation — especially not in the middle of the season! — and perhaps even evolves to a contract extension.

Gallagher has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino, has been the stand-in captain more often than not, and is playing the best he’s ever played for us. His style fits Pochettino’s style very well and forcing an end to that budding relationship just for pure financial gain will not be a popular move.
