Malang Sarr was one of several Chelsea players still in search of a team to play for on Transfer Deadline Day, and unfortunately it looks he was one of the few who were unsuccessful in completing that assignment.
According to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, Sarr’s proposed loan move to Greuther Fürth “could not be finalized”. The 22-year-old emerged as a target for the newly promoted Bundesliga after being linked previously with Bologna in Italy and Brest in France, but for whatever reason, the deal collapsed in the final hours. Sarr had even traveled to Germany, according to the report, but it was not to be.

That certainly makes it unclear what the next few months might hold for the center back, who spent last season on loan at FC Porto, with mixed results.
There are still a few transfer windows open, most notably in the Russian Premier League (September 7) and the Turkish Süper Lig (September 8), so perhaps we can salvage the situation into something better than reserves football with the U23s in the PL2. (See also: Ross Barkley.)
