Valencia ‘emerge as the frontrunners’ for Trevoh Chalobah loan — report

Biggest challenge?

Trevoh Chalobah has had a very good preseason for Chelsea, taking advantage of many of our first-team defenders being absent at the start (still on post-Euros holidays) to impress Thomas Tuchel with his performances.

Unfortunately, it would appear that there is still no room for him in the first-team squad, now that all the players are back and he’s been left off the (provisional) squad list for the UEFA Super Cup as well. (UPDATE: apparently he is on the travel list, at least, after all)

Fortunately, it sounds like we’re only looking to loan him out once again, rather than sanctioning a permanent move — apparently at Tuchel’s behest — though that obviously might depend on the 22-year-old willing to do this dance for another season in hopes of another shot at the Chelsea first-team next summer.

Chalobah, who has two years left on his Chelsea contract, had been previously linked with the likes of Brentford and West Brom, though that was before our preseason had truly begun. His heavy involvement put a stop to those rumors, but apparently Valencia have been keeping an eye on him throughout, and according to Goal, have “emerged as the frontrunners” for his signature.

The younger of the Chalobahs impressed at Lorient in Ligue 1 last season and has also had successful loan spells at Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town in the Championship. La Liga would be a step up and hopefully a step towards the Chelsea first-team next season.
