Danny Drinkwater’s next attempt to resurrect his career will take place not too far up the road from London, with the 31-year-old midfielder today joining Reading FC on loan for the season.
It’s unclear if the midfielder has signed a contract extension or not with Chelsea before heading out. He had one year left on the deal he signed when arriving from Leicester City in 2017, but perhaps we are okay with completely cutting our losses at this point.
It’s fair to say that Drinkwater’s time at Chelsea has been a bit of a disaster, but hopefully he can find some footballing joy in the Championship (alongside fellow Chelsea loanee Baba Rahman).
“Danny’s talent and ability is unquestionable and to bring a player of his calibre to our club is extremely exciting. A proven winner, he is a player whose achievements on the pitch can inspire those around him and help to drive this club forward from the centre of midfield. We are very pleased to welcome him to Reading.”
