The transfer window is set to close shortly, on Tuesday night, but Chelsea are still heavily involved in what is looking like madcap last few days around England and Europe.
And it’s not just all the last-minute loans that need to be arranged, though Thomas Tuchel obviously declined to mention any specific names when talking about the situation in today’s press conference.
“We have still some ideas and we are trying and not all decisions are taken regarding also to our squad. So there are some negotiations going on and we are aware of all the situations.
“[I’m not “hoping”] because I’m happy with the squad as it is, and I have a lot of confidence we are absolutely competitive on a high level. But still all eyes are open, and we are aware of all situations and you never know in football. [...] There are not many days left to take big decisions, so it’s all good so far.”
One bit of transfer news that Tuchel did confirm is Kurt Zouma’s impending transfer to West Ham United, which is expected to close soon — despite some reports putting that in doubt once again because of Zouma’s trip to France this week that was claimed to be his medical but is actually something personal instead.
“There are negotiations between West Ham and Chelsea about Kurt. Kurt is not with us right now but it is not about these negotiations. He has some personal issues to solve. We allowed him to go and travel to France. This is why he is not with us in the squad.
“There are negotiations but I don’t know where it will lead. We have to wait, both things can happen that he stays or leaves.”

West Ham head coach David Moyes has confirmed that Zouma’s medical is ongoing now, and he hopes for a swift and happy resolution to this drawn out bit of business.
“We have had an offer accepted by Chelsea for Kurt but he is still completing his medical at the moment, so I could not tell you if that is complete yet or not as I have just come in from training.
“I am hoping that goes through and we can get in a fourth centre-half because I think we are short of one this moment in time.”

If and when Zouma’s transfer is finalized, Chelsea will be expected to turn to Jules Koundé, and hopefully not leave that to very last second either.
But first, Liverpool tomorrow!
