Following a season spent with Anderlecht in Belgium, Chelsea centre-back Matt Miazga is exploring a new location by joining La Liga side CD Alavés on loan. He can now check off Spain on his Europe-wide loan travels.

Although Miazga was clear in voicing his desire to move on permanently from Chelsea this summer, the transfer market continues to feel the adverse economic effects of the pandemic, and that likely diminished his options quite severely. And so, his loan travels and travails go on for another season, having also signed an extension with Chelsea before heading out (as we usually do in these cases).
Miazga’s new team did not begin the new season on the best of notes, suffering a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Real Madrid (and a resurgent Eden Hazard). Alavés will be hoping that Captain Miazgamerica’s experience — having played for Vitesse, Nantes, Reading and Anderlecht, not to mention the US Men’s National Team — will help shore up the defence and ensure survival for another season in La Liga, having barely avoided relegation last season.
Good luck, Matt!
