Chelsea Development Squad goalkeeper Karlo Žiger will be continuing his development out on loan this season, with the Chelsea official website confirming his move to NK Rudar Velenje — a club currently playing in the Slovenian second division, who have lost all three of their league games so far this season!
That’s a pretty strong deep cut, even for the Loan Army. One for the trivia buffs then!
Karlo Žiger has joined NK Rudar Velenje of the Slovenian second tier on loan for the season. Yep, that's a new one for the #CFC #LoanArmy.

Žiger signed with Chelsea in 2017, from Croatian club NK Zagreb, and while the Chelsea website calls him a 19-year-old, most other sources says he’s 20 already, which would make more sense.
Contrary to most other goalkeepers in our youth system, this will be Žiger’s first real loan opportunity. A couple years ago, he spent a few months at non-league Sutton United, but ended up playing no games for them.
He’s represented Croatia at the U17 and U19 levels, and often served as the fourth-goalkeeper last year behind Mendy, Kepa, and Willy Caballero.
Best of luck in Slovenia, Karlo!
