Reports earlier this week gave hope to the idea that Chelsea would be finally able to arrange a transfer for Emerson, but while it sounds like we were able to find an arrangement, it’s only of the loan variety.
Olympique Lyonnais were reportedly “in talks” with Chelsea over possible £15m deal, but those talks have only resulted in a loan agreement, according to L’Equipe, who cite unnamed English sources to add that Emerson is expected in town for a medical tomorrow (Thursday).
Presumably Lyon will be covering wages and paying a small loan fee, but the loan is not expected to have any further clauses pertaining to a purchase, which means that Emerson’s contract will surely have been extended by a year, like unconfirmed reports in Italy have been saying for a while.
We were hopeful that Lyon’s interest would ramp up talks for either a transfer or at least a loan with a buy-obligation, but it looks like we were unsuccessful in those aims.
Maybe next year?
