The start of preseason is just around the corner, perhaps as early as before the end of this week — information remains rather scarce about this — with players starting to trickle back from summer holidays and various national team commitments. Among the first incoming batch is loan warrior Matt Miazga, who had already “reported back” as confirmed by ESPN on Tuesday. (ESPN also claim he has two years left on his Chelsea contract when most sources claim just one.)
But Miazga’s not planning to stay for long. He’s done with the loan life after five years and four different teams, and the newly married man is hoping to be able to settle down somewhere, as he made it quite clear last month already — this is in stark contrast to his attitude last summer, when he was still talking about believing in making it at Chelsea.
“The plan is to move on, short and sweet. Honestly, that’s the goal. We’ll see what happens in the window. I know there’s interest and talks with certain clubs and certain people. I’d like to get it done on the earlier part of the summer so that I can get a proper preseason somewhere. But I think it’s time to move on. Chelsea knows that, and I know that as well.”

It’s been a very quiet window for Chelsea thus far, on both the incoming and the outgoing side. That doesn’t bode too well for Miazga, who looked ready to stay with Anderlecht for good, before the Belgian top division side dropped their interest. He has two years left on his Chelsea contract.
And so, we wait.
