With just a couple weeks to go until the start of the new Premier League season, it’s time to start making some decisions about players’ futures and trim the first-team squad to a manageable number. Thomas Tuchel hinted at as much after Tuesday’s friendly win at Bournemouth as well, especially with seven more first-team players set to return from extended post-international tournament holidays.
One player whose future appears to have been clarified is young Conor Gallagher, who was the only one to play the full 90 on Tuesday, but now looks set to leave on loan for Crystal Palace — opting for the Eagles ahead of interest from Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Conor Gallagher will have a medical at Crystal Palace later after opting for the Eagles on loan over Leeds. Told that Thomas Tuchel has been really impressed by the midfielder in pre-season but can’t guarantee him regular PL minutes, which is what Gallagher wants. #CFC #CPFC

Given our crowded squad, it’s probably the best choice for the 21-year-old, who has four more years left on his contract and should get a great chance to make the team next summer, especially if he has himself a good loan at Palace under manager Patrick Vieira.
