Chelsea’s negotiations with Sevilla for Jules Koundé continue to progress steadily, with personal terms apparently already agreed and/or pretty much a formality. In fact, according to Marca (via Sport Witness), Koundé himself is “delighted” with the interest shown by the Blues, as he had been waiting for a top club (i.e. NOT Tottenham!) to make an approach — Real Madrid themselves remain in the periphery, with Chelsea firmly in the driver’s seat.
Meanwhile, as per RMC Sport, the 22-year-old has already held discussion with Thomas Tuchel about how the move will be beneficial to his career and progression and about the style and vision of football at currently on offer at Stamford Bridge. Presumably those talks did not go badly.
That said, the deal is a slam dunk just yet. While Sevilla are open to selling, they aren’t in a rush and will make sure to get paid handsomely (€60-70m). Fortunately, it sounds like the inclusion of Kurt Zouma in the deal to cut that fee in half is a serious option, with Sevilla Director of Football, Monchi apparently quite keen on the 26-year-old — if they can agree personal terms, which may be a problem. Other replacement options for Sevilla include Ozan Kabak and Jérôme Boateng.
