Farewell or see you soon?

Marc Guéhi is one of the most promising center backs to come out of the Chelsea Academy in recent years, but unfortunately, just like Fikayo Tomori, he will be continuing his career elsewhere, at least for the time being.

As confirmed today, the 21-year-old has joined Crystal Palace on a transfer believed to be worth around £15-20m, signing a five-year contract. Chelsea reportedly do have a sell-on clause as well as a right to match any future bids accepted by Palace, offering at least the possibility of us being able to undo this potential mistake.

After an attention-grabbing 18 months on loan at Swansea City, with whom he came close to earning promotion to the Premier League twice, Guéhi will now get to test his mettle at the top level. Given his performances and the wide interest shown in him this summer, it would be entirely unsurprising to see him excel.

Guéhi joined Chelsea at age 9, and leaves with two first-team appearances to his name, both in 2019-20, both in the League Cup. He’s represented England at various international youth levels, but is also eligible for the country of his birth, Côte d’Ivoire.

Good luck, Marc!
