Tammy Abraham has been Chelsea’s top goalscorer the last two seasons, but evidently that’s not enough to guarantee him a place in the team — or even on the substitutes bench — especially since Thomas Tuchel has taken over. While relations between the two appear to be quite amicable (based on a snippet of a video from the training ground last week featuring a hug), Tammy has looked on his way out for some time now.
However, if there is to be a sale, we haven’t made much progress on it. There seems to be little interest in Abraham at Chelsea’s £40m asking price (e.g. West Ham), and the idea of using him as a make-weight in any potential deals for Erling Haaland, Romelu, Lukaku, or Harry Kane is an even bigger non-starter (in large part because the teams involved in those potential deals don’t want to actually sell their players).
That’s where Arsenal could come in as per the Telegraph’s latest report, which claims that the Gunners would certainly be interested (both Aubameyang and Lacazette are over 30 now), though they’d have to raise some funds first, potentially by selling the latter.
Abraham does have two years left on his contract, so it’s certainly still within the realm of possibility that he stays, though he’d surely need some assurances of (at least some) playing time from the head coach first, which may not be forthcoming based on the last six months.
