Conor Gallagher was one of the most outstanding members of Chelsea’s Loan Army last season, playing a big role at West Bromwich Albion and earning plenty of plaudits even as the team themselves weren’t very good at would end up getting relegated straight back down to the Championship.
The 21-year-old is now back with the Blues and part of the early preseason training group at Cobham, but there may not be room for him in an already crowded midfield later in the summer — though there is at least one spot up for grabs with Billy Gilmour having already left on loan for the season.
Should Gallagher end up hitting the loan trail for the third season running, he might be able to take on his toughest assignment yet, with Newcastle United reportedly monitoring that situation. According to the Telegraph, the Magpies have “shown an interest” in the midfielder, who could be used to improve Steve Bruce’s squad. Newcastle are currently working on trying to get Joe Willock back from Arsenal for at least one more season, which may or may not play into any potential Gallagher loan. Gallagher, who has four years left on the long-term contract he signed last summer, was previously linked with Crystal Palace as well.
