Following his spell at Granada last season, Chelsea winger Kenedy has spent the summer back in his native Brazil, where he’s been training with Flamengo to keep fit first and foremost, but also with a view towards a potential transfer or loan there for the rest of the year.
However, in absence of an official bid from the relatively rich Brazilian champions, Chelsea had called back the 25-year-old loanee for the start of preseason. He’s yet to actually appear however, perhaps because Flamengo have been finally motivated to send an official bid, and, as per Globo Esporte, are expecting an answer from Chelsea this week.
Flamengo vice president Marcos Braz has pretty much also confirmed this situation, while also making it clear that they cannot really do any better than this.
“For Kenedy, we depend on Chelsea’s release and we are trying. [We] will not buy any players. We intend to bring it by loan and, if possible, at no financial cost. This leaves us fragile in the negotiation, very different from other times. We have to have patience, have a lot of resilience, and we will not reduce the appetite for a “class A” player who can help us.”

Chelsea are said to be holding for a proper transfer bid from whoever wants to actually make a bid, though with Giuliano Bertolucci, our usual broker for Brazilian deals, now also working with Kenedy, perhaps we will find some sort of solution soon, perhaps even with Flamengo.
