Billy Gilmour is expected to be joining Norwich City on loan for the season, to help him to fulfil his potential by playing more often than he has been over the last couple seasons with Chelsea. While it’s been great to see the 20-year-old on the fringes of the first-team, with mostly good-to-great performances when called upon, he does need more playing time than the few hundred minutes he’s been getting.
Thankfully, it looks like Chelsea have found a great solution, with a season-long loan at recently promoted Norwich City, where Gilmour will be under the tutelage of Daniel Farke, who was the B-Team’s manager at Borussia Dortmund when Thomas Tuchel was the first-team head coach.
As per Sky Sports, the 20-year-old will have a medical today, Thursday, having already agreed to join the club, but having had to wait for his period of self-isolation be over after his Euro 2020 campaign ended in a positive COVID-19 test. (He was and remained asymptomatic, as far as we know.)
Gilmour has 22 professional appearances to his name thus far; hopefully he will be many more with this loan at Norwich. Being trained by a former Borussia Dortmund coach, who has not forgotten their footballing philosophy, should also help Gilmour’s chances of making it at Chelsea the season after, be that with Thomas Tuchel or whoever else in charge.
