“Call me Ishmael Salihamidžić.”
Despite recent reports of Callum Hudson-Odoi wanting to stay and fight for his place Chelsea, and Chelsea not looking to dissuade him of that notion, the Times today report that Chelsea actually “will consider offers” for the 20-year-old. Bayern Munich and their football director, Hasan “Captain Ahab” Salihamidžić are of course once again readying their best ship, ready to pursue their white whale for the manyeth transfer season in a row.
The report doesn’t deign to include a potential amount that Chelsea would in fact consider, but does remind that we rejected offers upwards of £35m before successfully convincing Hudson-Odoi to sign a new long-term deal at the start of Frank Lampard’s tenure, in September 2019. With three years still left on that contract, any potential transfer fee would surely have to be a lot bigger than that.
Should Hudson-Odoi, who played more first-team minutes this season than any season previous, start agitating for a move, that might change — and that’s probably whoever sourced this story for the Times is looking to achieve — but the report does add that Tuchel is an “admirer” as well. (And competition for minutes would be just as tough at Bayern.)
