Inter Milan and Napoli are the two clubs vying for Emerson Palmieri this summer, though with neither willing to meet Chelsea’s current €20m asking price, not even remotely close.
Still, it’s the former who appear to be in more concretely — Napoli’s interest seems entirely (and lazily) predicated on new head Luciano Spalletti’s familiarity with Emerson from their AS Roma days — but that doesn’t mean that Inter are any hurry either. In fact, according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s latest report, they are not expected to make any moves until July at the earliest, once the fiscal year begins anew.
Inter may have won the Scudetto, but their financial troubles mean that they need to balance the books before the end of the month by selling at least one big-money player (probably Achraf Hakimi to PSG rather than Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea) and not even think about spending any money until that’s done. With little interest overall in Emerson, that should suit them just fine, especially with Emerson himself now involved with the Italian National Team ahead of Euro 2020, which starts next week after a twelve-month delay.
So, Emerson’s future is likely to remain murky for a while yet, but what else is new...
