Last summer, Jadon Sancho was the Borussia Dortmund player every other major club wanted. But then came the pandemic, and suddenly paying upwards of £100m on a player, regardless of how talented they may be, sounded even more absurd than usual. And so his name went off the radar for a while — perhaps a bit longer than expected, even, thanks to a poor start to the 2020-21 season.
The 21-year-old has since recovered his form, and his name has been back in the rumor mill once again. It’s helped that BVB have reportedly lowered their asking price, to a more accommodating £80m.
The two potential suitors most commonly linked are Manchester United and Chelsea, once again, but according to the Athletic, United have the edge thanks to Sancho’s personal preference. United were already close last summer, perhaps have gone as far as agreeing personal terms, and they’re looking to close the deal.
Sancho would certainly be a great addition to any club looking to push for Premier League dominance. However Chelsea are very well served already in the roles Sancho plays in attacking midfield, so we might let him go to United without putting up too much of a challenge...
