Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG are the three clubs supposedly in the race for Raphaël Varane’s signature, and according to Cadena COPE, Real Madrid are happy to let him go for €60m. Previous reports put Real’s asking price at €70m, but with the 28-year-old seemingly no closer to signing a new contract (especially now that he’s at the Euros), Real are starting to feel a bit of time pressure.

As per Marca, Real Madrid have extended a new offer, but Varane can still get a better deal elsewhere, such as at Manchester United, who may or may not have already offered something more enticing, according to ABC Deportes (via Managing Madrid) — while also offering the opportunity of a new challenge, which Varane apparently wants as well.

Returning manager Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti is said to be keen on holding on to the world class center back, but Real will definitely not want to let him go for free next summer when his current contract expires. For Varane, it’s a win-win situation: he’ll either get a new big-money extension at Real, or he’ll get a new big-money contract somewhere else. (It’s a well worn, yet still effective trick he surely learned from Sergio Ramos over the years.)

Chelsea remain in the periphery of this situation, but things could get interesting later in the summer, especially if Real keep dropping their price.
