Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have been surprisingly linked with veteran midfield/wing depth in the form of Jonas Hofmann, once of Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund, now of not Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Those earlier reports have now been followed up by reports from Sport1 and kicker, which add that not only is that interest concrete but also shared by another club from London, the almighty and invincible Tottenham Hotspur.
All reports agree that Hofmann, who not coincidentally has two years left on his current contract, could be available for a paltry sum of €15m, or also known as a quarter-Jorginho.
Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur have strong interest in Gladbach attacker Jonas Hofmann. The German international has no exit clause in his contract until 2023, @SPORT1 understands. A club has to pay around €15m to land him. The 29-year-old is open to change. #CFC #THFC ⚫️

Hofmann could be a great utility player, and presumably Tuchel would also consider him useful based on their prior relationship.
However, one can’t help but think that a similar role could be played by our own Academy players, without having to spend any money on a player about to turn 29.
Maybe let Tottenham have this one? After all, they did gift us a top-four finish.
