While Davide Zappacosta is unlikely to continue his stay at Genoa next season, a number of bigger Italian clubs reportedly have the 28-year-old on their radar, with Atalanta, AC Milan and Inter Milan among the suitors. According to Sportitalia, Napoli will also join the race for the former Italy international.
With Elseid Hysaj set to depart after his contract expires this summer, the Neapolitan club are looking for someone to deputize for Giovanni Di Lorenzo, and Zappacosta’s experience in Serie A makes him an ideal candidate for this role.
Zappacosta’s contract with Chelsea expires in 2022, and it’s likely that the Blues will look to offload him permanently this summer. However, Italian sides are notorious for willing to do only loan deals, and as we saw in the case of Tiemoue Bakayoko, there is a good chance that a temporary transfer arrangement could backfire. With Zappacosta on the older side now, Chelsea should look to sell him in a permanent deal even if it is at a lower fee.
