Granada hoping to keep Kenedy but Chelsea might have other plans — report

An unexpected chance?

Chelsea loanee Robert Kenedy has had an impressive stint with Granada this season, scoring 8 goals and providing 6 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions. While a significant number of his good performances have come off the bench, he still had a profound impact on Granada’s season, especially in the Europa League where they reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual finalists Manchester United.

Kenedy’s career best year has certainly raised his transfer value, and since Granada don’t have a buy-option, they’re worried about getting priced out especially after finishing just ninth, two spots below the last European place in La Liga. However, as per local sources, Granada are holding out hope of being able to bring Kenedy back for another loan, and this time with a view towards signing him permanently afterwards as well.

Kenedy apparently had his contract with Chelsea extended to 2024 back in April, and the report adds the Chelsea want to take a look at him during preseason first before deciding what the next move might be — be that another loan or a transfer.

Despite his success, it would be quite surprising to see Kenedy anywhere near the Chelsea first-team next season, so perhaps Granada just need be patient for a few months. Kenedy is supposedly quite happy in the south of Spain.
