RC Lens signed wing-back Jonathan Clauss on a free transfer last summer, plucking him out Arminia Bielefeld of the German second division just as they themselves were moving up to the French top division.
And Clauss has done quite well apparently in Ligue 1, turning a few heads with his performances and earning himself contract talks, French national team call-up rumors, and a few notable transfer rumors as well. According to kicker, both Chelsea and Manchester City are “showing interest” in the 28-year-old while Sevilla and an unnamed club in Turkey are supposedly doing the same as well.
Lens obviously want to extend his contract, but if they can’t, they are said to be willing to deal in the €6-10m range, as per RMC Sport (via GFFN). That’s similar to what Chelsea once paid for César Azpilicueta, though at a much younger age.
In any case, Chelsea’s links to potential right wing backs do not appear to be ending anytime soon, with Clauss joining the likes of Lucas Vazquez, Gabriel Menino, Jesus Corona and Jonas Hofmann.
