Marco van Ginkel’s long and winding road to a full recovery from the devastating series of knee injuries looks to have reached a successful conclusion with a very strong finish to the season.
The Chelsea loanee made is first start in over three years last weekend, as PSV beat Willem II, 2-0. He then also started midweek, in the 4-2 win over PEC Zwolle, playing the full 90, and repeated that feat yesterday as well, in the 1-1 draw against Utrecht that confirmed PSV’s second place finish in the Eredivisie.
The draw was PSV’s final match of the season, and fittingly they gave Van Ginkel the armband, which he also last wore three years ago. And to make it even better, Van Ginkel scored PSV’s only goal of the match, another feat he last accomplished in 2018. What a most wonderful day for Wulfert Cornelius!

Van Ginkel has been waiting for Chelsea to clarify his future, but it sounds like he expects to be leaving for good this summer.
While Chelsea (might) have an option to extend his contract yet again, MVG believes he will be allowed to make a free transfer to a new team (hopefully PSV themselves).
“I haven’t heard anything, so I think I’ll be transfer-free.
“I haven’t heard from PSV yet, but it could be. I’ve always had a good time at PSV and was always appreciated here.”
