Young center back Jules Koundé has been making a name for himself in Spain over the last couple years, and the 22-year-old was reportedly even subject to an approach from Manchester City last summer. Sevilla rebuffed that €60m bid at the time, but may be more willing to do business this summer according to recent reports, including from AS (via Inside Futbol).
The France U21 international is supposedly on the radar of not only Chelsea, but Manchester United and Real Madrid as well, but none of those teams are expected to be desperate enough to trigger Koundé’s €80m release clause. However, a €20m discount might prove enticing, with the player’s entourage said to believe that Sevilla are willing to do business at that valuation.
Having joined the club in 2019, Koundé does still have three years left on his contract, so Sevilla would be in no hurry to actually do so. They have weathered the COVID-19 pandemic better than most clubs in Spain, though that doesn’t mean they weren’t affected, which could perhaps provide some motivation.
Koundé certainly looks to have a bright and promising future, though €60m still sounds like a very steep investment so we best be sure he would in fact improve our defensive corps now and going forward.
