Eduardo Camavinga has rejected a contract extension at Rennes, which has alerted nearly every major club in Europe.

With his contract expiring in 2022, one lucky club looks set to acquire the 18-year-old on a cut-price deal. According to France Football, that could very well be Bayern Munich, who have intensified their efforts.

Bayern might face strong competition from Real Madrid, but are optimistic of completing a deal in the coming weeks. They had been targeting Florian Neuhaus of Borussia Mönchengladbach, but were priced out due to his €45m price tag. So they’ve turned their attentions to Camavinga.

Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka will still be the starters, but Camavinga is expected to provide depth, with neither Corentin Tolisso or Marc Roca currently trusted. The Bayern hierarchy have apparently promised Camavinga plenty of playing time, and are looking to entice him with the prospect of playing in a youth-friendly league, despite the uncertainty over their managerial position.

Meanwhile, fellow teenager Lucas Gourna-Douath, who was recently linked with Chelsea, is apparently on the move. According to Goal, Ligue 1’s financial crisis means that some of the brightest stars in the league will be offloaded to raise some much-needed funds.

Case in point, the situation at ASSE, where the club’s been put up for sale and would be looking to lighten the wage bill as well. With Gourna-Douath their brightest prospect — alongside Adil Aouchiche — he is likely to be their big departure in the summer. Chelsea, PSG, AC Milan and RB Leipzig are amongst those interested, and any of them can sign the “new Pogba” for a reported €25m. There are suggestions that ASSE could look to extend the France U17 captain’s current contract that runs through 2023, but that would just be to drive his price up.

Gourna-Douath has made 25 Ligue 1 appearances this season, and has earned high praise for his performances, with his defensive work-rate against PSG in January particularly highly lauded.
