Emerson Palmieri only sees the pitch these days when Chelsea need to shut shop and see out a win — recently as a midfielder, even. This situation is surely unsustainable, and it is quite likely that the Italy international will seek to depart in the summer in search of better opportunities.
The latest claim along those lines from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia) is the Emerson wants to “run away” from Chelsea at the end of the season. A return to Serie A is on the cards, and perennially-linked Inter Milan are said to be keeping a close tab on his situation.
With Emerson’s contract expiring in 2022, the Nerazzurri know that the upcoming transfer window will be a good time to sign him, and he would be in line to replace the departing Ashley Young. Inter feel that the 26-year-old would be the perfect complement to Achraf Hakimi on the opposite flank. However, Inter will not get a free run at Emerson, with Juventus also said to be interested.
Emerson has been linked tenuously with both of those Serie A clubs in the past couple of transfer windows, with a move never quite materializing. Let’s hope that their interest transforms to something actually tangible this time around.
