Chelsea have been named as one of the many clubs interested in signing Eduardo Camavinga, with the 18-year-old budding midfield superstar looking to leave Rennes in the summer. Camavinga has reportedly refused to sign a contract extension with the Ligue 1 side, and with his current deal up in 2022, Rennes will look to sell him in the upcoming transfer window rather than lose him for free a year later.
The Athletic have recently reiterated that story, while Marca cite Rennes’ likely failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League — they’re currently in 7th position — as well as a change in representation for the teenager. Rennes apparently also wanted to set a high release clause in his new contract, but Camavinga did not agree with those terms.
Rennes had been hoping to hold on to him for a while longer, but that looks unlikely now. Alongside Chelsea, the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal are all said to be interested, so we have a tough battle on our hands should we make a serious pursuit for the prodigal midfielder.
Eduardo Camavinga will not be signing new Rennes contract. Interest from top clubs but undecided if he exits this summer or as free agent in 2022. #staderennais want lucrative deal but would likely add high release clause so not happening @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/Gt0bYlG0Gi— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) April 12, 2021
