Pau Torres is one of several centre backs reportedly on Chelsea’s wish list, and there’s potential good news for a possible pursuit with ESPN reporting that the player is trying to engineer an exit from Villarreal.
Torres is looking to move to one of Europe’s elite clubs after two impressive seasons at Villarreal, and wants his club to make him available for less than his €65m release clause. Villarreal could oblige, though not exactly at a great discount, by setting an asking price of €50m.
Alongside Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid are the prime contenders for the 24-year-old’s signature, with United said to be particularly interested due to their need for a left-footed centre back.
Of course, Chelsea could do with a left-footed centre back of our own. There are none in the current squad — Jake Clarke-Salter, Levi Colwill, and Malang Sarr would qualify, but they’re surely just long-shots at this point. Torres could be a good fallback option should we fail in our pursuit of Jules Koundé.
