The rumors about AC Milan turning Fikayo Tomori’s loan into a permanent move have only gotten louder with each subsequent appearance by the 23-year-old, with some reports already claiming that it’s practically a certainty.
Goal further reiterates those claims, but with one (expected) additional significant detail. Chelsea will not offer a discount under any circumstances.
Formal talks have yet to take place, but it’s understood that — obviously — Milan will try to negotiate a lower fee. But Chelsea do appear to be well aware that Tomori’s real valuation is probably far more than the £26m (€30m) buy-option that’s in his deal currently, and we will thus ensure that if he does have to leave the club at the end of the season, he will do so at the full fee. Milan’s probable qualification for next season’s Champions League (they are currently in 2nd) will ensure that they can pay the full price as well.
Tomori could have been a vital member of Thomas Tuchel’s three-man backline, and one can’t help but feel that Chelsea will rue letting him leave on loan with a buy-option, especially seeing as how the futures of Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen and Marc Guéhi are all uncertain as well.
