Andreas Christensen is expected to miss Chelsea’s FA Cup match against Morecambe on Sunday with the knee problem he reportedly suffered in the game against Aston Villa, though we don’t know much about the gravity of the injury just yet.
However, according to The Northern Echo, Christensen’s injury is worse than it’s been let on, and he could be out of action for “a number of weeks” with what they’re calling a “serious knee injury”. Whether that’s the truth or just speculation — Frank Lampard’s pre-game press conference tomorrow should shed some light on things — the Newcastle-based paper are paying attention to this as it’s affecting Fikayo Tomori’s expected loan departure.
Newcastle United, alongside Leeds United, have been at the forefront of the race for Tomori’s signature, but Lampard is now apparently blocking any moves for the 23-year-old, and plans to keep him as the 4th-choice centre back option — though that still may not result in Tomori seeing too many more minutes than the 224 he’s got so far this season.
Big Fik has been regularly claimed to be part of the long-term future for the club, but he cannot scale the heights that have been envisioned for him if he doesn’t regularly play football. For his sake, let’s hope that there’s good news on Christensen’s injury soon.
