Five transfer windows have passed since Emerson Palmieri arrived at Chelsea, which means that we’re now in the sixth transfer window where Emerson is being linked with a return to Italy. Usual suspects Napoli are once again named in a report by Alfredo “Hot Days” Pedullà for La Gazzetta Dello Sport, with the Partenopei still “dreaming” about a transfer for the 26-year-old.
Napoli are close to sending fullback Kévin Malcuit on loan to Fiorentina, and they might see a one-time target of Chelsea’s, Faouzi Ghoulam leave the club as well. If the latter happens, they might be inclined to make an approach for Emerson.
But arranging that move might not be an easy task, especially as Chelsea are probably not too keen on losing Ben Chilwell’s backup, especially on a half-season loan deal that has no guarantees of a future transfer fee.
So, sixth time may not be the charm still for Emerson’s eventual return to Italy. Maybe next summer, or next winter, or the summer after that...
