Newcastle United, alongside the likes of West Ham United, Leeds United and Rennes, have been linked with a move for Fikayo Tomori in the January transfer window in recent weeks. And according to the Newcastle Chronicle, there appears to be some progress on that front, with the 23-year-old set to be offered on loan to the Magpies in the coming days.

Manager Steve Bruce is seemingly in favor of this move, but since his side will only be limited to loan deals in this window, and with Premier League rules allowing a maximum of two players on loan from other Premier League sides, he will need to weigh up his options carefully.

Newcastle have also been offered the chance to sign Hamza Choudbury from Leicester City, while also looking at Brandon Willliams of Manchester United, but will have to omit one of those three players. Tomori is said to have an advantage over Williams due to his versatility and his ability to provide cover at right back as well.

The Daily Mail have also lent credence to Newcastle’s interest in Tomori, by claiming that Steve Bruce has personally asked for the player.

Tomori needs to be playing regularly, and he is certainly not doing that at Chelsea, with his last appearance coming against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup. A loan could help him get his career back on track, while also allowing us to trim our bloated squad.
