Chelsea may have spent a lot of money last summer, but it is clear that we still need reinforcements in a few areas, including in central defence where veteran Thiago Silva is the only solid presence we have at the moment.

RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is certainly a fantastic name for Chelsea, and other top clubs such as Bayern Munich, to consider in such a quest. And while Bayern are said to be ahead at the moment, we might get a boost in the race by hiring Thomas Tuchel, according to a report from German outlet Bild (via Daily Mail).

Tuchel, whose methods are held in high regard all around Europe, already showed interest in Upamecano as Paris Saint-Germain head coach. It also helps that Tuchel knows French, which could help him communicate effectively with the France international.

Competition for Upamecano will be tough, but the decision will be ultimately down to the player thanks to his easily reachable £38m release clause. Alongside Chelsea and Bayern, Manchester United, Liverpool, and probably many others will be vying for his signature — so every little advantage could count!
