Bayern Munich have been reported to be the frontrunners for RB Leipzig centre back Dayot Upamecano’s signature, and since they’re never shy when it comes to talking about other teams’ players, chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has more or less confirmed their interest in a recent interview.
“We will of course deal with it, not only with [Upamecano], but in principle with all the positions where we want and need to do something.”
“It’s too early for something like that, he’s still a Leipzig player at least until the end of the season. But it’s common knowledge that he has a clause in his contract.”

That clause is said to be €42.5m or so, and Sport BILD (via Bavarian Football Works) are reporting that Bayern have asked Upamecano’s agents to keep them informed should any other club formally or informally enquire about the 22-year-old, with Chelsea and Liverpool being specifically mentioned as potentially interested parties.
Bayern will need to overhaul their backline in the near future, with both David Alaba and Jerome Boateng expected to depart after their contracts expire in the summer. However, their finances are being affected by the pandemic, which could put Chelsea at an advantage.
Convincing Upamecano to join us over the reigning Champions League title-holders will not be easy, but Chelsea’s project remains one of the most exciting in Europe, despite the poor performances on the pitch as of late, and we should still be in a strong position to be worthy competitors for Upamecano’s signature.
Let the (calciomercato) games begin!
Dayot Upamecano race will be so interesting. Rummenigge confirmed today that Bayern are seriously interested and pushing with his agent, but Premier League top clubs are involved too as PSG.

It’ll be up to the player because of the €42m release clause...
