Real Madrid had been in the driver’s seat for (ed.note: tenuously) Chelsea-linked David Alaba’s signing as a free agent in the summer, and according to the latest reports, that is now pretty much a done deal.
According to Marca as well as Guardian, the final agreement has been reached and Alaba will join Los Blancos in the summer on a 4-year contract. He has already passed his medical, and will soon sign the pre-contract that will bind his future to the Spanish giants, where he will earn a net salary of €11m-€12m a season.

Chelsea, and many others, had been reportedly monitoring the long-time Bayern Munich defender’s situation with interest, partly due to his versatility and partly due to the advantageous financials involved. In the end, the 28-year-old got his dream move, choosing Real Madrid over the likes of Barcelona, PSG, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Chelsea will have to look elsewhere in our quest to reinforce our defensive corps. Recent reports have us turning our gaze towards RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, but there will be plenty of competition for his signature as well, not least from Bayern who will be looking to replace the aforementioned Alaba.
David Alaba’s dream was always to play for Real Madrid. The pre-contract is ‘almost ready’ and agreed since the first days of January, when Real were leading the race. #LFC and #PSG made their bid in December. ⚪️
