Michy Batshuayi’s second loan stint at Crystal Palace has been nothing like his first. Poor performances on the pitch (12 appearances, 0 goals) have relegated him to fourth choice and limited him to just 600 minutes, while trivial incidents have created unnecessary controversial headlines.
In such a situation, a recall might have been expected, but according to Belgian newspaper HLN, Chelsea have no plans of doing so at the moment. We apparently believe that the 27-year-old can thrive once again in the coming months — despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.
Batshuayi is currently behind the likes of Wilfried Zaha, André Ayew and even Christian Benteke in the pecking order in Roy Hodgson’s two-striker formation. He’s not started a league game in two months, playing just 53 minutes outside of a 1-0 loss in the FA Cup.
Michy will have one more year left on his Chelsea contract this season. If we are to be able to extract any value from him in the summer transfer window, he’s going to have to pick things up and turn things around quickly.
